Every living being, no matter how small or insignificant, deserves a good life. Showing kindness and compassion to animals is one of the highest practices of unconditional love. This is because animals cannot repay our kindness in ways we may expect. Kechara Forest Retreat is home to a number of birds, fish, dogs and cats — many of which were rescued from dismal living conditions by our founder His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche.
- A 4,000 sq ft walk-in aviary allows our 30+ rescued birds to stretch their wings, and live out the rest of their natural lives in a lush, spacious and stimulating environment, safe from harm and predators.
- The retreat centre is also home to a number of adopted cats and dogs, geese and chickens, and a pond full of rescued fish, and every effort is made to feed, care and provide for our furry and feathered friends.
- Our rescued animals receive care and attention from a dedicated team looking after their physical and spiritual needs. They live alongside holy Buddha statues and speakers playing recordings of pujas and mantras to plant powerful imprints in their minds for their future lives.
With the help of caring people like you, these animals and many others will have a good home and food for the rest of their lives. Supporting animal care activities also creates the causes for long life — for the animals, for ourselves, and for the people to whom we dedicate prayers and merits.
