Description

Remove obstacles, attract positive conditions, and send great merits during the 7th Lunar Month. Our Ullambana packages combine both wish-fulfilling and obstacle-clearing Tibetan Buddhist prayers and offerings. The Ullambana Standard Offering includes:

  • 6 x Dedication Tablets (1 name per tablet)
  • 1 x 1-ft Incense

Our sangha and pastors will make prayers and offerings on your behalf, and dedicate the merits according to your wishes during the Ullambana Festival at Kechara Forest Retreat. All proceeds support the maintenance of the temple.

About Ullambana

Buddha taught that the 7th Month Ullambana Festival is one of the best times to honour your ancestors & dearly departed, send protection & merits to loved ones, and offer compassion to all suffering beings.

According to the Ullambana Sutra, Maudgalyayana, one of Buddha's chief disciples, saw with his clairvoyance that his beloved mother had been reborn as a Hungry Ghost (preta) in the lower realms. Distressed, he sought Buddha's advice on how best to help his mother. Buddha replied:

“Your mother’s offences are deep and firmly rooted. You alone do not have enough power. Although your filial sounds move heaven and earth, the heaven spirits, the earth spirits, twisted demons, and those outside the way, Brahmans, and the Four Heavenly King Gods, are also without sufficient strength. The awesome spiritual power of the assembled Sangha of the ten directions is necessary for liberation to be attained. I shall now speak a Dharma of rescue which causes all those in difficulty to leave worry and suffering, and to eradicate obstacles from offences.”

Buddha advised Maudgalyayana to make extensive offerings to the Sangha on the 15th day of the 7th month — including food, incense, candles, and bedding, all of the best quality. Buddha then instructed the assembly of monks to recite mantras and dedicate them to the sponsor’s family and parents of seven generations. Due to the vast merits generated from these offerings, Maudgalyayana’s mother was liberated from the lower realms to be reborn as a human.

This was the beginning of the Buddhist Ullambana Festival.

Ullambana Offering Service

  • Prayers, offerings and dedication of merits for orders placed by September 5, 2025 (Fri) 11.59 pm (GMT +8) will be performed on your behalf during the Ullambana Festival at Kechara Forest Retreat on September 6, 2025 (Sat).
  • All other orders will be fulfilled by September 21, 2025 (Sun).

Requesting a Service

  1. Set a positive intention before requesting the offering service. The purer your intention, the greater the merit generated.
  2. Select your desired offering quantity, size and style (where applicable).
  3. In the “Dedication” section: Provide the name of the person/entity the offering is dedicated to. You can also include a specific wish or request. Our sangha/pastors/team will dedicate the merits according to your wishes.
  4. In the “Sponsor” section: Provide the name of the sponsor (benefactor). This is optional; sponsors can choose to remain anonymous.
  5. After submitting your offering service request, rejoice and dedicate the merits you have generated.
  6. We will inform you by email once your offering has been fulfilled.
